TikTok has introduced an in-app restaurant guide called Must Eat, a move that puts the platform in competition with services such as Yelp and even Google Maps. The company announced the feature on Wednesday, 2026-10-28.

Must Eat is built on 40 million posts, reviews and comments about dining that already exist on TikTok. It turns videos and discussions about popular local businesses into restaurant recommendation guides. Users can write reviews, call restaurants and make reservations, and search for nearby spots on a map.

At a launch event this week, TikTok US CEO Adam Presser described Must Eat as "the compilation of all of the conversation that's happening on the TikTok platform across creators, restaurateurs, [and] individuals" who post videos or comment about local restaurants. Featured New York restaurants include Golden Diner, known for its highly viral pancakes, as well as hard-to-book venues such as Semma and Via Carota.

The product sits somewhere between Yelp and the more curated recommendations of publications like The Infatuation. It is organized into two tabs, "everyday eats" and "elevated dining." Users can sort and filter by rating, distance, cuisine type and whether a place is currently open. Each restaurant page links to TikTok videos about the business, and diners can bookmark places to save for later.

Must Eat is initially available only in New York City, Los Angeles and the Bay Area. TikTok says restaurants cannot pay to be included in its recommendation lists.

The launch is not the company's first attempt to connect watching a video with visiting a place in person. Earlier this year, TikTok added the ability to book hotels and attractions through the app. That feature, TikTok Go, let creators tag and link to locations, and Must Eat expands on that capability.

The push into dining reflects how much the app has influenced restaurants. Creators have positioned themselves as the food critics of the short-form video era, each with a distinct style. The popularity of food videos has even affected what restaurants put on their menus, with examples including extra-long cheese pulls and dramatic presentations.

In its press release for the launch, TikTok said 27 million US diners visited a restaurant, cafe or shop for the first time last year because of the platform.
