Fans attending the Super Bowl in Inglewood, California, will hear a different voice during the midgame break. The NFL, Apple Music, and Roc Nation confirmed on Monday that Jay-Z will headline the halftime show on Feb. 14, 2027. This decision places the rapper at the center of the event's entertainment, a role he has previously occupied only in a behind-the-scenes capacity.
The announcement follows a multi-day period of speculation. The league released a short video showing Jay-Z seated inside SoFi Stadium with a group of goats. The accompanying text read, "GOAT's out of the bag." This visual served as the official confirmation of his selection for the upcoming game.
The venue holds personal significance for the artist. Jay-Z recently concluded his "Jay-Z 30" concert tour at SoFi Stadium. The tour began with three performances at Yankee Stadium in New York, moved to London, and finished in Southern California. His return to the stadium less than a year later marks a distinct shift in his relationship with the Super Bowl platform.
Roc Nation has collaborated with the NFL since 2019. The partnership involves advising on and producing the league's entertainment presentations. At the start of that deal, Jay-Z told NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, "If this is about me performing at the Super Bowl, then we can just end this conversation now." His acceptance of the 2027 slot resolves a question that has lingered since that initial exchange.
Jay-Z joins a recent list of headliners that includes Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar, and The Weeknd. Born Shawn Carter, he holds 25 Grammy Awards and has received 89 nominations. His career includes founding Roc-A-Fella Records and establishing Roc Nation in 2008. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2017 and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2021. His debut album, "Reasonable Doubt," was added to the Grammy Hall of Fame last year.
