Brewers Take 3-0 Series Lead
A seven-hit fifth inning and a historic pitching performance put Milwaukee one win away from its first championship.

The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Tampa Bay Rays 10-1 on Monday to take a 3-0 lead in the World Series.
The series began with Milwaukee winning the first three games. The team has won eight straight games this postseason, tying the record for a single fall campaign. They defeated the San Diego Padres in the National League Division Series and swept the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series.
The decisive run came in the fifth inning. Milwaukee collected seven consecutive hits, all with two outs. This sequence set a postseason record for straight hits in an inning. Jackson Chourio singled and stole second. William Contreras reached on a single after a replay overturned a forceout at second base. Brice Turang hit a two-run single, followed by runs from Garrett Mitchell, Cooper Pratt, Sal Frelick, David Hamilton, and Chourio. It marked the first time in World Series history that a team scored eight runs with two out in a single frame.
Robert Gasser anchored the defense for the Brewers. He allowed a leadoff single to Yandy Díaz in the first inning but retired the next 14 batters. Victor Mesa Jr. walked to start the sixth. Gasser faced the minimum 18 batters through six innings. He is the first starter to do so since Curt Schilling in 2001 and the first left-handed pitcher to achieve it since Sandy Koufax in 1965. Gasser has allowed only one run in 15 innings across three road starts in this postseason.
Chourio finished 4 for 5 with a double. He has eight hits in three Series games. He became the second-youngest player to collect four hits and a stolen base in a World Series game, trailing only Ty Cobb from 1908. Manager Pat Murphy described Chourio as tremendous and locked in.
The Rays allowed five runs and seven hits to Freddy Peralta in 4 2/3 innings. Peralta, who won MVP of the American League Championship Series, faced his former team. Rays manager Kevin Cash noted that Peralta was a little out of sync. Cash stated that the team must win Tuesday to keep the series alive. Historically, 21 of the 25 teams that held a 3-0 lead in the World Series went on to win the championship.
Game 4 is scheduled for Tuesday night at Tropicana Field. Griffin Jax is listed to start for Tampa Bay. The Brewers have not yet named their starting pitcher. Brandon Woodruff threw a nine-inning no-decision in his return from a shoulder injury, though he has not been designated as the Game 4 starter yet. A win in Game 4 would make Milwaukee the first team to sweep both the league championship series and the World Series since the 1976 Cincinnati Reds.
