Oklahoma City Thunder general manager Sam Presti confirmed on Monday that two starting players require surgery following injuries sustained during Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Clippers.

The team's All-NBA forward Jalen Williams has a fractured left fibula and a dislocated ankle. He will undergo surgery to address both issues. This setback adds to previous wrist and hamstring problems that have already interrupted his season.

Starting guard Cason Wallace also needs surgery. He tore the labrum in his left shoulder during the same matchup. The injuries leave the Thunder without two key contributors as they enter a critical phase of the schedule.

Presti visited Williams at the hospital on Sunday night and returned on Monday morning. The forward was in good spirits and focused on his recovery. Presti noted that Williams was already thinking about the rehabilitation process.

Wallace, by contrast, wanted to continue playing. Presti said the guard would have returned to the court if the coaching staff had allowed it. Both players are now scheduled for operations before the team can provide a clearer timeline for their returns.

The Thunder's roster construction changes immediately with these absences. Williams is a primary scorer and Wallace is a key perimeter defender. Head coach Mark Daigneault must redistribute responsibilities across the lineup. There is no direct replacement for either player's specific skill set.

Presti identified younger players like Bennett Stirtz and Micah Peavy as candidates for increased roles. Daigneault will determine which lineups function best without the two starters. The team must adapt its style of play to fit the available personnel.

The general manager declined to set a specific return date for either player. He prefers to wait for post-surgery information before establishing expectations. This approach allows the organization to avoid making long-term decisions based on limited data.

Presti acknowledged that the team's recent history of injuries has made this part of the job difficult. He recalled previous seasons disrupted by major absences. The current situation requires patience from both the staff and the fan base.

The Thunder will wait for the surgeries to be completed before assessing the full impact on their season. Presti emphasized that the organization will not abandon its long-term strategy in response to a single night of misfortune. The focus remains on supporting the two players through their recovery.

Presti said the team is united in its approach. "We're all in it together," he said. "And we gotta battle."
